HELP THE SUSTAINABILITY COUNCIL TURN PLASTIC INTO ART!
The Sustainability Council has been working with Appleby alumnus Roger Brenninkmeyer '90, founder of PECO, a company dedicated to working collaboratively with local residents and businesses to create stunning, original art pieces from melted plastic plates with unique designs. We are pleased to have completed the design competition, which will be announced soon, and are now looking to collect plastic from the Appleby community which will be melted and formed into a beautiful art installation for Appleby's campus.
Your help is needed to collect LDPE and HDPE plastics, but unfortunately most manufacturers don't label what plastic is used. To keep it simple, we are collecting plastic bread bags, plastic shopping bags (the kind you used to get at the grocery store), and the plastic overwrap that comes on items such as toilet paper and paper towels, or any type of plastic that resembles the type used in these common items. There will be a collection bin at Nicholas Arts Centre front reception. Don't worry if it's not perfect, Sustainability Council members will sort and organize the donations. Ideally the bags should be free from breadcrumbs or paper stickers.
